Equipment, things you need for Mountain Biking

The equipment and things and you need for Mountain Biking are just as vital as your heart to your body. Though, some do pains in your pocket but eventually you will complete your set without even noticing you already have. I personally ride in my bike sometimes with just a pair of shorts, sandals, shirt, and my aspiration to speed up my way. I don’t teach this as the right way, but I’m actually telling you to ride your bike because you love to do so.

Although you can see mountain cyclist maneuver hills with not much more than their bike — a true adventurer and a safety-conscious biker should bring the needed equipment for him to enjoy the ride. A cyclist that does this is not just a “self-contained” cyclist but also a wise person who knows the real importance of conquering limits.

I know you’re expecting a list, but consider this list of questions first: What if I will incur a cut? Get a flat tire? Become hungry and thirsty? Well, it really pays to be prepared.

It is likewise important to minimize equipment bulk, and especially weight. Every ounce must be pedaled up every steep hill and into every stiff wind. In selecting your equipment, prefer the SMALL, the LIGHT, and SIMPLY FUNCTIONAL. Always remember that the bulkier your load, the greater your wind resistance.

Along the way, I will be suggesting things for you to minimize weight and bulk but not sacrificing your comfort and pleasure. Take heed of this concept, double duty — when a piece of equipment serves two functions. Your detachable bike light could be use as your flashlight. That is what I exactly mean of minimizing weight.

Also, when selecting equipment, you need to know which items are essential and which are just for effects. To guide you, I have labeled items as either “ESSENTIAL” or “OPTIONAL.” Although some optional items are highly recommended, none are essential. If you have them or the means to get them, fine. If you don’t have, it is still fine. However, you will do well to exercise restraint, taking only those optional items that come closest to fitting your personal needs.

The most important “equipment” though is not for sale. But it is within yourself: your big heart, your open mind, your persistence, your adaptability, and especially, your sense of humor. Without these, the finest equipment lies useless. And with these, the scantiest equipment shines and performs well.

I belong to the Ilocano tribe here in the Philippines and we are known to be frugal people. With that reason, I want you to be penny-wise also in your mountain biking endeavors.
